Oh Hot-lanta

It's Monday, but my focus is on Wednesday.

Why?

K and I will be making the trek to Warner Robins, GA to see my (2nd) cousin get married to his high school sweetheart. And who doesn't love a good wedding, amiright? We'll be making the 927 mile trip by car and I fully intend to enjoy all 16 hours of it. I'll be starting the drive since I'm demanding requesting that we leave by 7:30pm so as to hit Atlanta by 10:30 Thursday morning. Besides, I can take a half day and go home and sleep while waiting for K to get home.

I'm  excited since I haven't seen this branch of the family since 2010 but I'm semi-nervous as it will be K's first time meeting any of them. My first cousins are going to assume the parent role and ask him a million questions. Is it bad that I can't wait to see him in the hot seat?? They're a spirited bunch but it's always all in good fun.

What tickles me pink is that he has no idea how incredibly hot it's going to be. When I was down 2 years ago I was in the nice, cool confines of the Atlanta airport. As we walked towards the sliding glass doors I had an idea of the heat that was waiting for me. I knew it was going to be steamy. It was like opening the oven while baking a cake. Boyfriend has no idea what he's in for. He doesn't mind the heat but he's not going to be a fan of this. Me? I'll be in my element.

To prepare for the melting I bought him a pair of cargo shorts and fortunately he approved. He thinks everything is "lame". Last summer, before we were dating, he was actually shopping for, dare I say it, jorts. I about died. So the pair I bought are the only ones he has. And I bought him new sneakers because if this child tried to wear his Timberlands with a pair of shorts I would have to cut him. These are the relationship crosses I have to bare.

As for me, I'm all set. Maxi dresses, shorts, tank tops, and most important of all - bathing suit. There's a pool, jacuzzi, and drink with my name on it.

  1. I am not a fan of the heat. I would melt. I've taken to wearing shorts lately and I bought a pair of 3/4 trousers and really it's something I never thought I would wear. I'm forcing myself to accept my body here because if I don't I'm going to melt. It's always fun when partners get put in the hotseat by family, so you're allowed to look forward to it :) That drive sounds pretty brutal though. But it'll be worth it. Have fun, and try to get out of the pool and jacuzzi occasionally :)

P.S Well done on keeping him away from jorts.

  2. Enjoy the road trip! I love road trips... well, except ones that involve driving through Nebraska/Kansas/Iowa. I'd rather take the melting heat than those states any day.

    1. I can't imagine how boring that would be. Oh wait, have you ever driven through Pennsylvania? I imagine it's pretty comparable.

  3. I love the heat. I love it and I'm crazy, I know, but I love. Enjoy every second by the pool. I'll be over here, jealous of the road tripping. :)

    1. Boyfriend is a total keeper. He's just a fashion disaster. He'll be reformed soon enough. ;)

  7. HELL YEAH road trip! You better do a travel post about your adventures! (she says weeks late). I've been to Georgia passing through to go to Florida, but I've never been to Atlanta OR Savannah. Soooo...this is my jealous face.

  8. Savannah is AMAZING! I think you'd really enjoy it. I was there in 2010. Maybe I should do a super retro blog about that trip??
