Girl Problems

I've been a girl all 28 years of my life. In all this time I've come to realize one thing.
I suck at being a girl.
I know there is no set definition for being a "girl" but there are certain girl things I'm just not into. Things you won't catch me doing, trying, buying or wearing.
1| No pink
I have never liked this color and probably never will. It's just so... ugh. Now, I can handle a nice, deep magenta, but if it's baby, pastel, bubble gum or cotton candy you can just take it back to where you found it. And yes, I realize there's "pink" on the blog, but really, it's magenta, so it passes.

2| Why does it look like you robbed a hair salon?
My hair is a curly web of awesome. It's also the easiest thing to maintain. I don't own a straightener, curling iron, hairdryer or a brush. I don't own bump-its or extensions. I don't use mousse or hairspray. I have zero use for these things. I do want a straightener SOLELY because I like to straighten my hair twice a year to give it a trim or just to wear it differently.

Step 1: Wash, 2-3 times a week, scalp only
Step 2: Condition
Step 3a: Gel or Walk out the door.

The extent of my arsenal

3| I'm Grinch-like
"It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags."
I don't do bows, lace, ribbons or any other "girly" accessory. Bows belong on presents. Lace belongs under my clothes. Ribbons are for dancing.

4| Trends aren't for me
I may like the current trend or even want to try it but I can just about guarantee that you won't find me dressed in the latest trends with a certain bag, bracelet, watch or pair of shoes. Not because I don't like them, I'm just not one to jump on a bandwagon because something is popular.

5| Absolutely NO glitter

5| I'm not a makeup junkie
I use the stuff but I probably buy new makeup once every 18 months. I made my first purchase in Sephora this weekend. I go to Ulta maybe every 6 months and I haven't seen a "beauty counter" in I don't know how long. For me, makeup is simple. Primer if I remember, eyeliner, mascara, chapstick. If I'm going out all of the above plus shadow, lipstick and bronzer. Plain, simple, easy!

Do you suck at being a girl... or boy?

  1. I love this and I agree with everything but the pink.

Sorry I just love my pink and black.

  2. I suck at being a girl too. We have so much in common!

My wife is much like this. She hates pink and she makes her own fashion. Interestingly enough, she's the only woman I've ever been with who gets routinely complimented on her clothes wherever she goes, meaning that you don't have to look like you just stepped out of a sci-fi alien space ship to look like a "fashion trend."

  3. But glitter is awesome. It's all sparkly and glittery.

  4. haha i love it. i don't think i'm a very "good" girl either. but i do like me some pink. but i could care less about hair products!

  5. samesies. i wear what's comfortable and half the time i don't even match. nor do i care.

    hair? ponytail.

makeup? just enough so that i don't look like i crawled out of a crypt.

frou-frou clothes? i prefer workout gear and feel most comfy in that.

    Vodka and Soda

  6. I think I'm a total girly girl, but I just suck at life in general. Ha! I always say I think I missed that class called How to Be A Grown Up 101, followed by Intro to the Real World and How It Works that everyone seemed to have taken but me. *shrugs* That's what makes us unique I guess. :)

  7. hey, just found your very honest and fun blog via Deb at JKIRF. I love her. "any friend of Debs is a ...." well ya, what the hay?

  8. I'm no pink fan and am not much of a girly girl either. Actually prefer black or gray. There's nothing wrong with being that way. My girls aren't girly either.

  9. I'm definitely not into pink either... but I do love a bit of glitter! x

  10. You know I'm with you on the pink thing! I also try to wash my hair less than twice a week too...I have been better about makeup lately, but I still try to keep it to less than fifteen minutes for application.
