Life in the Dirty Jersey

People are forever hating on New Jersey but today I'm giving you the reasons why we just do life better.

We pump our fists, not gas
Ok, I hate this phrase as much as the next person but it's half true. We're spoiled and don't have to pump our own gas. And you know what? It's awesome. I don't know about you but those beyond frigid mornings where my car is barely heated, getting out and standing in blistering winds for 15 minutes is not my idea of fun. Hello gas attendants! They do the dirty work and I stay nice and bundled. And it's not because we're lazy. It's because it's a law.

We're the epicenter of awesome.
I can't even make this up. We're pretty central to some awesome things. The Adirondack Mountains, a mere 4 hour drive. Washington, D.C. and Philly are a car ride away. The shore is so close the only issue is deciding which shore point to go to.

Ain't nobody got time for that
One of my favorite conveniences is that I can get anywhere I need to be in 15 minutes or less. Groceries, liquor store, bar, dry cleaners, thai food, pizza, the mall, etc. If I'm being ambitious, they're actually all within walking distance too, but let's not get crazy.

Three words: New York City I can't tell you how many nights I've sat on my roof looking at skylines. And the closer you get (Weehawken, Hoboken) the better it is. There's only one way to see the great skyline, and that's by being in NJ. Walk anywhere along Boulevard East and you're met with an amazing view.

This area is a major tour stop. Unlike Johnson City, TN or Blanding, UT, this area draws artists. If your favorite singer or band is on tour chances on they're making not one, but two stops here in the garden state. Let's not forget that three of the greats, The Boss, Old Blue Eyes, and Jon Bon Jovi, are all from here.

Bruce, The Fugees, Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra, Kool and the Gang, The Misfits, The Gaslight Anthem...
all from Dirty Jersey
Complain and talk that ish all you want, Jersey is one great place to live. What's awesome about your state?

  1. i heard the same about jersey. not sure why it's called the armpit of america?? i liked it there - close enough to the city yet far enough to not feel the craziness of the city.

i love my city (toronto) - it's like a cleaner, nicer version of new york (don't get me wrong, i also love NY) and we have everything - great food, nice people, awesome night life, great theaters etc...the only downfall is the snow/winters!

  2. Jersey Pride! People say Jersey is a bad place but honestly I love it here!

  3. whoa! a law to have gas pumpers?! i didn't know half of these things! nj gets snubbed on the credit!

  4. As a NJ resident of only 7 months or so, I love this post!

  5. Yay!! Jersey!! I literally have no idea how to pump gas. When I was away at school I would always just look sad at the gas station and get some boy to help me.

  6. If someone would pump my gas I'd never move!!

My sister use to live on Roosevelt Island in NYC, there is a great view of Manhattan from that little Island and she was lucky enough to get a city facing apartment!
