Sticker Shock

A few weeks ago, in the midst of being Winter's Bitch, I realized I needed better winter boots. I'd been lucky enough to get away with just wearing my fuggs on my morning commute and didn't really need anything else. After playing Dodge the Crater of Slush and arriving home with wet feet, it was clear that the fuggs just weren't working for me anymore.

Enter my Hunter/Sorel debate. Which do I buy? Which will I get the most use out of? Which are cheapest? And then it hit me....

Hunters
The boots of Blogville. Everyone and their Yorkie has a pair, or more, of these things. Not this girl. One, I haven't had rain boots since I was a kid and didn't see the purpose as an adult until I started working in Manhattan. These potholes will take you 20,000 leagues under the pavement. But lezzbehonest, they're rubber boots. Nothing more, nothing less. And yet they cost $150+.

College
Should I really even go here? Probably not. A college education is the most money you will ever pay for a piece of paper. Just let that sink in. I realize it comes with certain perks (hopefully) but it still nothing more than a dead tree.

Drano
What in plumbing hell SC Johnson & Co. I get that if you're buying Drano it's because Cousin It died in your shower and you need to send him to the great beyond. I have to buy it a few times a month. But $5 for a product that you are literally dumping down the drain? Not cool.

Urban Decay Naked Palette
I own one of these, the original, and I still don't think it's worth the $50 price tag. People go ape shit over this palette and for what? They're neutral colors, that you can get anywhere. Sure the colors are saturated, meaning they're true and long wearing but I can name at least 5 other things I'd rather spend a Grant on.

Going to the Movies
Can we just get a hallelujah for Netflix and Redbox? I probably go to the movies maybe 4 times a year. Call it cheap but there just isn't anything I feel needs to be seen in theater. Add to those Movies on Demand for about $4.50 and I can watch movies at home with all the free eats for less than half of the regular ticket price. So what if it's a few months after the fact.

So what do you refuse to spend money on?

  1. planners - those $50 planners? AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FO' DAT.

and although hunter boots can look adorable, unless they're fur lined and can be worn in the winter, i won't buy them. also, my calves can't fit into them so there's that.

  2. Yeap, this is exactly how I feel about the Naked eyeshadow palette. I don't care how nice it is lol. That price tag is ridiculous. And besides, I'm more of a mascara/eyelainer kind of girl anyways. I don't really wear eyeshadow that like at all.

  3. Expensive hair products, just give me some Suave and I'll be on my way.

I never wanted rain boots until I moved to the beach, so much flooding when it rains!

  4. I totally feel ya on the hunter boots thing. I don't get it. I do have to say I have one of the Naked Pallets and I do like it but it was a bit pricy thankfully I do not wear makeup all that often so it will last me a while. Drano....yeah I just enlist the help of MBT and he takes care of all that stuff.

  5. I freaking hate the cost of movies, it's ridiculous. And draino haha. But I do love my UD palette and my hunters. My UD palette has lasted forever, longer than other palettes I've tried. I love not having to go out and continually replace my eyeshadows, because I'm lazy. As far as the hunters, I use them as rain boots and as snow boots here in Chicago and I have yet to find anything better. One and done, don't need to replace them every year which I like because, again, lazy. And they dont have seams which I think is the main point, there's no way water can get in at the bottom like other boots I've had.

  7. The movies are the worst! I consider myself whatever the opposite of cheap is (frivolous?) and I just can't bring myself to spend $12+ to be annoyed by little children for 2 hours.

  8. I 1000% agree! I have Bearpaw rain boots and I got them on clearance for like $20. I have two of the Naked Palettes, but one I got for free and one for Christmas. Not gonna lie, I totally thought of selling the second one, but thought that wouldn't be very Christmas spirited, lol. Other things I would add to this list are curtains and placemats. To get plastic placemats that are $3-5 a PIECE these days. WTF.
