The Joys of Parenting

Let me just start this post off right now by saying that I am not a parent because I'm sure there will be some dissenting opinions.

In my opinion, parenting is not hard. Sure it's difficult to deal with teenagers or a stubborn child but overall it's not that difficult. I feel as though I've had enough parental models (Mom, grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, step-parents) in my life to know what it takes. Add to that that I have personal experience and I think my opinion is justified. As with any journey in life, it will have its ups and downs. It's how you handle it that matters.

...to be irritated by the non-stop sound of nonsense.

...to have to have the world's best imagination to keep a 3 year old entertained.

... to clean up vomit from the carpet at 10 at night {just FYI it doesn't involve a vacuum}

...to bribe a kid to get out of the pool because they're lips are turning blue and they're shivering.

... to feel regret for missing a soccer game.

... the excitement, joy, and indescribable love of hearing them say your name.

... to fall asleep, only to be woken up by cries at 2am.

...to be overjoyed about dry pull-ups.

...to clean up spilled milk, iced tea, squished tomatoes, and spaghetti from places that you can't even figure out how it got there.

...to get fed up when they don't listen or do that thing you just told them not to do.

...to need that extra time to have to gather up the sippy cup, snacks, extra clothes, and toy in order to just get out of the house and into the car.

...to be brought to tears when they blow your mind with how smart they are at a young age.

...to watch in wonder as they explore the world around them.

...to be excited by the little things they're excited about.

...to make certain activities kid-friendly just to make them happy.

Most importantly, I know what it feels like to love another person so completely, without question, that it hurts.

And I wouldn't trade it for anything.
